Review: Huawei Honor Holly

With Xiaomi and ASUS launching some great phones below the Rs 10000 range in India, the competition in the budget segment has spiced up. With every other phone manufacturer trying to capitalize on this segment, Huawei India has also announced a new budget smartphone, the Honor Holly. Similar to the Redmi 1S (I'll write a review soon), the Honor Holly also sports impressive specs for a budget smartphone.

The device comes with 5 inch HD display and is powered by 1.3GHz Quad Core MediaTek processor with 1GB RAM. The phone also comes with 16GB internal storage and is also expandable via microSD card. The phone supports dual SIM cards. There is 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera. So here is the detailed review of the Honor Holly..

The Huawei Honor comes with specifications similar to the Android One Devices launched by Micromax, Xolo, Spice and Karbonn

Inside The Box

In the box is the Handset, warranty card, user manual, data cable, travel charger and 2000 mAh battery. Please Note: Earphones are not included, hence you may have to buy one separately.

Design and Display

The Holly handset has got a curvy look . Build quality and finishing is very good. The handset has got a glossy finish both on front (black) as well as the back (White) panel.

Weight with battery is 156 grams and dimensions are 72.31mm x 141.94mm x 8.93mm. Power buttons and volume rockers are on the right side, 3.5mm audio jack on the top and micro USB port at the bottom. The handset consists of dual mics for noise cancellation.

Honor Holly comes with a slightly bigger screens compared to the Android One Mobiles. The Holly has a 5 inch screen with a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Colour reproduction is very good and viewing angles are okay.

This handset comes loaded with accelerometer, light, proximity and magnetic sensors. There is also a LED notification light.

Memory, Storage and OS

This handset is packed with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. On the first boot you will get 603MB free RAM and of the 16GB storage about 13GB is allocated for apps and user storage.Unlike the Xiaomi Mi3, there is micro SD card slot that supports 32GB external card in the Holly. Apps can be installed on the external storage.

Presently,OTG is not supported. But I think the update may come soon .The Honor Holly sails on Android 4.4.2 with Emotion UI.

Camera and Entertainment

The Holly comes with 8MP rear Auto Focus camera with LED flash and 2MP on the front. As far as the camera quality is concerned, the outdoor pictures were quite good . But the pictures in artificial lights were not so good.

Rear camera can shoot 1080p videos. This handset can play FHD videos.

Sound (speaker / in call) is loud and clear. No issues with 3G, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The device has a Dual SIM, only the SIM 1 supports 3G.Both SIMs are micro SIM. The call quality compared to the price is quite good.

In general it is a good alternative to Android One smartphone, slightly better for a small extra price.

Huawei Honor Holly is priced at Rs. 6,999.
